Dangerous Life

(For Emily)

She thinks about angels that dance in the fray
And the wonders of birds and how they fly way
but there had to be more in this world to be done
the purest of freedoms were yet to be won
the purest of freedoms were yet to be won.

On the fourth of July on 2016
She gained independence embracing a dream
Before anyone noticed she found herself where
all those bright metal birds take off into the air.

How faithful your friendships, how solid the sky?
It’s a dangerous life if you let it pass by.

She wanted the landscape, she wanted the clouds
But she had a fear that was screaming out loud
so there in her jump-suit she let herself go
with the earth coming toward her from way down below
with the earth coming toward her from way down below

With gravity pulling her down toward the world
The fear disappeared as she tumbled and hurled
replaced with euphoria, blissfulness, grace
with the breath of the elements slamming her face,
with the breath of the elements slamming her face.

Is your parachute strong, is your heart in the sky?
It’s a dangerous life if you let it pass by

Then a bubble of air made of color and cloth
stopped her free falling, she dangled a loft
And she silently drifted down toward the trees
With the heat rising up on the sweet southern breeze.

yes a dangerous thing is this life to endure
but the chances you take make you stronger for sure
and letting them go is more dangerous still
if you wish that you had but did not have the will

Later that night independence in place
she strode into work with a look on her face
and she served up the beer to the customers there
but her heart was still free falling down through the air

On the fourth of July in 2016
She gained independence embracing a dream
and she learned about courage, and making her way
It changed her forever, that freefalling day
yes it changed her forever that freefalling day…..
