Someone’s in the River

Monday morning 9 AM everything seems normal here
October sky is cool.. the air is clear
But there’s 1, 2, 3, 4, cop cars on the bridge
The ambulance is down below a helicopter hovers low

And someone’s in the river, someone’s in the river
someone’s in the river and the world is changing here and now.

Here comes another search and rescue fire truck with sirens on
Passerby’s are watching while the heroes put their dry suits on
It's hard to miss the urgency of all those lights a tale to tell
A morbid curiosity this kind of thing does not end well

When someone’s in the river, someone’s in the river
someone’s in the river and the world is changing here and now.

How did they come to be there? Did they overshoot the guardrail?
Did they fall or jump or try to swim or did their judgment just fail?
It’s a crazy world we’re living in this morning in October
When you wind up in the river, does it matter if you're sober?

Local shopping center ladies push their carts around
Tire store is opening bookseller turns her sign around
And everything seems normal here the cottonwoods obscure the view
Everyone just carried on as if there’s nothing else to do

But someone’s in the river, someone’s in the river
someone’s in the river and the world is changing here and now.
Someone’s in the river and the world is changing here and now.
